There are wedding styles that are inspired by a look, and then there are wedding styles that are inspired by color. When I met with the Scarboroughs to discuss their wedding flowers,  the first thing they mentioned was red. The bride's favorite color is a strong, vibrant, and needless to say - extremely romantic color. The designs for their flowers had to be classic  yet modern, bold yet tasteful, and of course reflect the passion they had for one another.

Red roses and white calla lily were the bride's only requests. Also, to my dismay the big flower "no no" on her list was hydrangeas! Apparently one of my favorite flowers (which is also a popular request by clients for weddings) is considered somewhat bad luck in Belgian culture. Interesting huh?

I chose to add dahlias and carnations into the mix for a variety of textures and tones. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of red and white roses, burgundy dahlias, and mini white calla lily accented with curled ti leaves. The bride's bouquet could not have been more classic - all red roses. Oh-so-chic! Nothing says romance and passion better than red roses. For the ring bearer, I created a white carnation pillow accented with a burgundy bow. White carnations symbolize pure love and good luck, so they are my favorite choice for ring pillows. The flower girl (of course my little Natalie) carried an ivory purse filled with roses. For the ceremony flowers, I decided on simple and elegant to complement the venue's beautiful architectural details and lush garden. I arranged silver buckets filled with red roses and carnations in a semi-circle, all hung on shepherd's hooks. Pairs of mini calla lilly were tied on the end chairs with burgundy ribbon and a sprinkling of rose petals lined the aisle.

As for the groom's say on flowers -he wanted tall centerpieces to match the scale of the reception venue's high ceilings. Since taller and larger arrangements tend to be obtrusive and invading, I was challenged to come up with something that minimized view discomfort. I solved this by using short round arrangements for only half of the tables. Then for the tall arrangements, I created  "floating" domes of red and white roses that dripped with petals and were adorned with hanging candles. We sprinkled hundreds of candles throughout the ballroom for a little bit of light and a lot of drama.

The bride also commissioned me to design and style a lounge area in the ballroom. Since the room ended up being a bit too big for their celebration,  we created a seating area by the bar. They wanted to add a personal touch to the details and celebrate the bride's nationality by incorporating Belgian beer bottles as the table numbers and fresh Belgian truffles as favors, which I packaged with custom favor boxes and the couple's monogram. As beer connoisseurs, they added their own"fun"element to the wedding, and the truffles topped off the romantic vibe with a taste of decadence.

Congratulations Sego and Ralph!!
