Black Friday

November 27, 2015

Before the chill arrived, I had been living in this off-shoulder top (last seen here). I love it so much, I'm thinking of ways to wear it throughout winter. Maybe layered on top of a turtleneck or button down blouse? Versatile pieces like this add so much life to my wardrobe. Grab it at Modern Citizen here, where they have a spend more, gift more event happening now.

We are thoroughly enjoying our laid-back holiday weekend at home. Yesterday I hosted a Thanksgiving lunch for my husband's side of the family and then spent the evening at my sister's place. I had ambitious goals to get up early to catch the sales today, but sleep won the battle. These days, I prefer to shop online in my PJ's and avoid the crowds. Here are a few steals and deals I have my eyes on:

Thanks so much for dropping by and for all the encouragement and support throughout the years! Have a wonderful long holiday weekend.

Cozy

November 22, 2015

Casual, comfortable and cozy. There's nothing like a good throw-on and go ensemble. I've been wearing this versatile tunic sweater non stop - it pairs effortlessly as a top with flares and heels, skinnies and thigh high boots, or worn alone as a casual dress (a bonus since I'm borderline petite!). Looking forward to lots of family time this coming week. This relaxed look is surely going to be on repeat throughout the holiday season.

Thanks for dropping by and have a great week!

Sweater Dress

November 18, 2015

This year I've made huge strides in incorporating more easy breezy dresses and skirts into my wardrobe. Now that the temperatures have drastically dropped, I've been reaching for cozy knit versions that are versatile enough to wear with sneakers, boots or heels. When the chill is out of control, I add Uniqlo's "Heattech" tights and these over-the-knee boots into the mix.

I've been scoring major deals at theRealReal, my guilty little pleasure. These Aquazzura booties were my most recent find. The trick to shopping consignment is to have a list of items you need (or want!) handy. That way you don't get too excited and pull the trigger on something just because it's deeply discounted. For items that aren't on the top of my list, I simply add them to my "obsessed" file and keep an eye on them until prices drop. I highly recommend signing up for their "First Look" program, where you get early access to their latest sales and new arrivals. Also, it pays to visit brick and mortar shops to try on specific designer shoes and clothes you are hunting down. Getting the size and fit right avoids a lot of wasted time shipping and returning what doesn't work.

I've got a busy two weeks ahead finishing up work and prepping for all the holiday festivities! Really excited to spend a lot of down time with family and friends.

Thanks so much for dropping by and hope you are having a fabulous week!

Military

November 10, 2015

Right after we took these photos, the temperatures dropped significantly and it's full-on sweater and coat season here in SF. We're definitely enjoying the crisp weather and bundling up in our coziest fall faves.

I picked up this military jacket on sale recently and couldn't be more thrilled about its versatility. It's the perfect layering piece on top of chunky sweaters in the fall and winter, or dresses and shorts during the spring. Two huge details that won me over - the generous pockets (sometimes I can't be bothered to carry a purse), and the attached belt (I get frustrated fumbling with belts that come off and need constant adjusting). Love how it looks extra feminine and flatters the figure when cinched!

Holiday sale shopping is in full swing - I feel like the huge promotions happen earlier and earlier each year!

  • Recently picked up these flats and these boots on sale at Saks' spend more save more promotion (hurry, this ends 11/11!).
  • Neiman Marcus also has a similar promo going on - spend more save more.
  • Nordstrom has 40% off fall styles until 11/15.
  • Bloomingdales up to 25% off Friends and Family
  • Intermix 48-hour flash sale, up to 40% (eyeing this dress)

Thanks for dropping by and have a great rest of the week!

Dressed

November 06, 2015

While I adore my uniforms, the downside is that it gets too comfortable and I stop being creative. So once in a while (when I have ample time), I make a conscious effort to veer away from my tried-and-true staples. Thankfully these days - anything goes. This transitional outfit was just as comfortable as my regular work attire, yet it definitely felt fresh. For chillier days, I plan on layering a slim fit turtleneck underneath the dress. The best part? I already had everything I needed for this new look.

What new combos have you tried for fall lately? Thanks for dropping by and have a wonderful weekend!

New In: Beauty

November 01, 2015

I can't say that I'm a beauty junkie. While I love my Sephora and experimenting with lip colors, my makeup in general stays the same. I know somethings going to stick with me forever if I hit pan or empty an entire bottle, which doesn't happen too often.

On a whim, I decided to try Honest Beauty for the first time ever while shooting images for this post. I didn't think it would make a lasting impression on me since I've been let down by lots of "all natural" makeup brands. It's extremely difficult to find safe and healthy beauty products. My skin tends to freak out when there is any oil, talc, fragrance, chemical sunscreens, or silicones (pretty much the entire ingredient list in high-end performance makeup). I've always sworn by BareMinerals, and continue to use their Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer daily since I prefer lighter coverage. It's a godsend for anyone who wants that all-in-one product.

Curiosity got the best of me and I felt like giving Jessica Alba's new makeup line a go. No silicones, oils, artificial or potentially toxic ingredients? Worth a shot. I'm wearing Honest Beauty's  Everything Oil Free Tinted Moisutrizer in Honestly Nectar, as well as the Concealer Duo in Balanced Beige. In all honesty? I'm blown away by the quality, performance and value. This tinted moisturizer provides pretty full coverage, I actually consider it a foundation. The down side is that it's extremely thick and a bit hard to apply with fingers - probably due to the titanium dioxide (a physical sunscreen). Spreadability aside, this still falls into my top 3 face products at the moment. I won't be replacing my BareMinerals, but Honest's is a great alternative for nights out, or when I need additional help. SO thrilled to finally have found a "foundation" my skin loves that also looks great in photos. I also have to mention that the concealer is equally amazing - no creasing or caking and a fantastic color match.

Another product I'm absolutely loving is Glossier's Boy Brow (I'm wearing the black shade). After filling in sparse areas with eyebrow powder, I use a light hand to fluff up and set  my brows for a natural and well-groomed look. On busy days when I don't have much time to glam up (which is like, everyday)- as long as my eyes and eyebrows are defined, I look and feel polished.

What products are you loving lately? Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week!

Modern Boho

October 30, 2015

Channeling my inner Zoe and going for a simple retro-boho look. I've finally scored the perfect off-shoulder top from Modern Citizen - although a bit late, since it feels like Fall has finally arrived! It's always the little details that get me- the ties on the sleeves, the tunic length and even the perfect weight of the fabric (not too thin, not too thick). This one is perfectly versatile since it can be worn tucked in, loose, or even as a dress (if you're 5'4" like me or shorter).

I can't remember the last time I slipped into a pair of flared jeans, but I was instantly reminded of their leg lengthening and overall slimming benefits when I reached for these. Flared jeans + 5-inch platform sandals = supermodel vibes. This pair I'm wearing is roughly 8 years old and was a ridiculous bargain at less than $25 (yet they actually fit me way better than much pricier alternatives).

If you missed my previous post about Soko and the Pencils of Promise Organization, hop on over here to check it out. Twenty percent of sales help build schools in Ghana.

Thanks so much for dropping by and have a great weekend!

Soko x Pencils of Promise

October 29, 2015

I'm honored and thrilled to introduce you to Soko - a brand that ethically crafts modern jewelry to fashion a better world. By connecting artisans in Africa with consumers throughout the globe, they provide empowerment and impact emerging economies.

Soko's latest partnership is with the Pencils of Promise organization. They've designed a beautiful nine-piece capsule collection, handcrafted in natural and recycled brass. Not only does this support the local entrepreneurs, it also gives their children access to education - 20 percent of profits will help fund school builds in Ghana.

I'm wearing the V drop necklace and the V ring paired with my own gold jewelry. It's simple yet substantial when worn alone or effortlessly layered with other delicate chains and rings. They definitely make a beautiful and meaningful statement. I'm extremely passionate about this cause and excited about the possibilities it will bring for those in developing countries. Take a peek at the collection heresnag some of their stunning pieces, and help build someone a better future.

A PRODUCT MAY NOT CHANGE THE WORLD.
BUT IT CAN BUILD A SCHOOL THAT CAN.

Transition

October 27, 2015

It's been unusually warm here in SF for this time of year. Typically we'd be layering up in full force. These days the crisp air and fog burn off by 10:00 am and we're left peeling off our scarves and jackets. To combat this, and at the same time refresh my wardrobe for the new season - I've been playing with a few summer favorites and pairing them with fall essentials. This lightweight pleated skort and knit turtleneck combo feels just right for this transitional weather. It's a fun, easy, and extremely comfortable look I'm loving at the moment. I bought the skort on a whim, and so glad I did since it's on major sale here. My gut told me it might end up in my return pile, but I was quite surprised with how many outfit combos I was able to pair it with. It feels great to switch things up and go with the unexpected.

Have you been experimenting with transitional outifts? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks so much for dropping by.

Wardrobe Tips

October 23, 2015

Sharing a few closet tips. They help keep my wardrobe in shape and make dressing up more efficient and fun!

1. PURGE
I have this system where I do a big purge and organize twice a year - specially during a transition from one season to the next. Lots of unnecessary, ill-fitting and just plain old pieces have been hauled away to consignment shops and my local Goodwill recently. It feels great to constantly hit the refresh button. I tend to discover old favorites that become new again, and of course - make room for better, smarter pieces.

2. CREATE A SYSTEM
Then to ensure that each item in my closet actually gets worn, I plan about a week or two's worth of outfits in advance. Sunday nights are spent pulling pieces out and arranging them in a free standing clothing rack - where I can mix, match and style them all for the next couple of days. The rack is refreshed weekly or daily with something new. This has really helped me ensure I get the most out of what I buy. Anything that I feel I didn't touch on my rack gets tossed into a "return, sell or donate" pile.

3. ORGANIZE and DECORATE
I like to set up my dressing area like a boutique. Everything strategically and neatly organized to get ready fast. There's a spot to sit and put shoes on, ample storage for hanging and folded clothes, and boxes to keep smaller items clutter-free. This week's Friday Find: this gorgeous minimalist clothing rack. The shelves are perfect for displaying purses and accessories like scarves and belts. It'll really make the outfit planning more efficient, and at the same time make for a great decorative accent.

So Real

October 09, 2015

What I wear on most days is pretty simple. I stick to no-fuss comfortable and quality basics. To keep it all interesting, I like to amp up my shoes and accessories. Small but impactful details can really elevate an entire look. These Dior So Real sunnies are the perfect statement piece. It has this totally modern yet retro vibe and I feel insanely chic when I have them on.

Today's Friday Find: a very similar version for a fraction of the price here.

Friday Find: Easy Dress

October 02, 2015

From our recent trip to Los Angeles. I was cool and comfortable in this easy dress (under $20!) and sneakers for an entire day in Disneyland and California Adventure. It was Natalie's fourth visit and we had way too much fun this time around.  Seven is the most ideal age for a Disney trip. She currently has this adventurous spirit, is tall enough to get on the more daring rides (she enjoyed every single one of them....including the Tower of Terror!), and her energy was limitless.  I on the other hand, do not know how I got up the next day.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Little Black Dress

September 30, 2015

A sleek yet playful take on the classic little black dress - The Ella from Modern Citizen. What's not to love about this classic-with-a-twist shift? It's extremely comfortable, the a-line silhouette is figure flattering, the ruffles add the perfect amount of feminine detail, and it has pockets. I was able to eat, move and have fun without feeling frumpy. It's perfectly simple yet still feels special. Pretty much everything you need and want in a LBD that can be worn to any special occasion. With the holidays coming up, this will surely be on heavy rotation. More Modern Citizen must-haves include this dress, these trousers , this sweater and this coat.

I hope you're having a great week so far. Thanks for stopping by!
