New Essentials & Holiday Gifting

December 12, 2014

Growing up in a tropical climate meant I was always dreaming of layering up and keeping warm. Hence, my weakness for luxe coats. I also thought that purses (alongside some fab heels) were the ultimate female essential - you can tell a lot about a woman by the kind of bag she carries. Always the practical type, I look for functional minimalist details and craftsmanship. There has to be plenty of room for a cell phone, wallet, keys, glasses, sunnies, and a small water bottle (hydrate, hydrate, hydrate). One can never have enough black - so I'm delighted to add this Petra crossbody from Everlane to my collection. I'm loving the easy-access pouch, roomy interior and the contrast of suede and leather. Another fab Black Friday score - this coat from Toteme, which was on the top of my wish list. The kimono wrap styling and over sized fit is perfect for a relaxed yet refined ensemble. I'll be pairing it with high-waisted distressed skinnies, chunky knits and some booties all winter long.

I did most of my Christmas shopping online this year and scored some amazing deals. Here are a few items I've picked up for friends and family:

Spaces: Clean & Cozy

December 03, 2014

The challenge in creating minimalist spaces lies in finding the perfect balance between simple yet intriguing, raw yet refined,  clean yet cozy. I'm loving everything about this space - the muted tones, rich contrast, the mixture of finishes. Layers of linen frame the platform bed creating a room within a room without sacrificing light or precious square footage. The juxtaposition of the low frame and the drapes hung all the way from the ceiling gives the illusion of a taller space. Bright, airy and extremely relaxing. The cave-like sleeping nook draws you in with the contrast of dark linen lining the interior. I cant get enough of the seamless storage cabinets and the fine, well-thought out details (like the discrete inset drapery mechanism). It seems like the ultimate blend of practical, livable and luxe simplicity.

Black Friday | Weekend Essentials

November 28, 2014

I've been living in these trousers. Technically, they are workout sweatpants. While they were meant to be worn to and from the gym - I've actually worn them to work, with heeled booties and even pumps! No shame when they are styled so perfectly with the drape front detail, and are deceptively comfortable (ie loose and streeeeetchy). I've gotten lots of compliments on them - and most are shocked that they are from Lululemon. You heard that right! It was only fitting they were the first things I grabbed on Thanksgiving morning. Paired them with my fave cashmere sweater and these slides (such a steal right now) for a relaxed yet polished hostess ensemble - perfect for our informal family gathering(s) yesterday. We stepped out for a bit this morning to witness the madness in Union Square- this sleeveless coat and my fave backpack meant I was comfortably warm, yet had my hands free for hot chocolate and browsing the sales racks. While I spotted a few good things, I was there for the fun of it all. I'm waiting for the better deals, coming in the next two weeks! I did however, snag a few items I've been eyeing online:  this coat at 25% off (patience pays off!) and this dress (such a steal, very Olsen-esque).

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving - have a great long weekend and thanks for dropping by!

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!

We kept things extra simple at home. Each year I make the turkey, stuffing, gravy, and mashed potatoes. My in-laws come over for lunch, then we head out to my side of the family for dinner. Looking forward to a relaxing next couple of days, enjoying what I'm most thankful for every year - my family.

Here's a nice little treat - my Thanksgiving tabletop from last year was featured on Apartment Therapy recently. Check it out here.

Thank you so much for your love, encouragement and support throughout the years! SO blessed and extremely grateful.

What would I do without the colors black and white? And, I'd like to personally thank whoever invented sweatshirts. This cashmere one I picked up at a thrift store (men's section) last year is the perfect blend of luxe and casual. I've worn it so much, I'm already worried I'll need a back-up soon. Since I've been obsessed with black denim, I invested in this distressed pair by Madewell. They have just the right amount of give, do not bag out, and have the perfect "high" rise and length. Not ashamed to say I've worn this look and variations non stop these past couple of weeks.

Thanks for dropping by and hope you have a great week!

Coveting: Totême

November 13, 2014

Elin Kling and Karl Lindman's fresh new label Totême is everything. Their debut collection embodies "refined yet casual luxury" - timeless staples that I can never get enough of. On the top of my current wish list is their Chelsea coat - recently spotted (in black) on super cool babe Emily Weiss during our casual meet and greet last night. I'm obsessed with the greige shade, drop shoulders, the cozy kimono-effect, and the fact that the sash belt is set-in (separate ties tend to slide off and it constantly bugs me). Another tiny detail that won me over is the structured simple collar - I have yet to come across a great wrap coat that doesn't have a shawl collar or over sized lapels. This is definitely an investment piece - one I'm willing to splurge on since it's basically my dream coat.

Totême Chelsea Coat available here.

Steal It: PS11

Currently contemplating this classic, multi-functional little number! Enough edge and tough-luxe styling that'll surely add polish to any ensemble.

Once in a while I feel it's necessary to go through a whole-life cleanse. Purge the negative and unnecessary and infuse more of the essentials. When times are particularly stressful or hectic, I take simple baby steps - eating less sugar,  trying new workouts, simplifying my beauty routine, de-cluttering my mind and surroundings, reconnecting with friends and family, and also taking a few minutes to myself. These all help re-energize my spirit and keep me going. At the same time, I like to ignore the trends and fall back on my closet staples - the tried and true classics that I feel confident and comfortable in. Most of the time I resort to my relaxed tee, dark skinny jeans and heels formula.

Recently discovered and added to my closet's hall of fame (and hoarded in all the possible neutrals): The Perfect Tee. Finally. We all have our own preferences when it comes to the elusive white t-shirt. I personally love the borrowed-from-the-boys fit. This Skargorn tee comes in a perfect over sized cut and drapes beautifully - it's not sheer and feels like you've worn and loved it for years.

This current cleanse I'm going through was brought about by a handful of incredible changes I'm going through career-wise - thanks to this blog, which has opened so many doors for me. While I'm busier than ever, I couldn't be more grateful. I couldn't have gotten this far without all your support throughout the years. Thank you so much for following along and cheering me on!

Nude Skincare // Cuyana

September 28, 2014

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of previewing NUDE Skincare's fabulous new products. We learned a lot about the company and it's philosophy: simple, natural skincare rooted in nutrition. It was only fitting that Cuyana co-hosted the affair, showcasing their stunning fall collection (need everything). I'm extremely impressed with these two local brands and a huge fan of their core and mission. Fashion and beauty have come together to highlight "a life of inspired simplicity" and celebrating fewer, better things.

I have been using NUDE Purify Deep Cleansing Mask, Detox Brightening Fizzy Powder wash, and Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly for the past four days along side my other all-natural necessities (like a new fave: Josie Maran's Daily Argan Oil moisturizer with SPF ). Not only has my skin been so soft and smooth, it looks much healthier. Redness around my nose has significantly decreased, and the irritation caused by a previous moisturizer (loaded with chemical SPF) has also subsided. My skin literally glows. Natalie commented yesterday "Mom, why is your face so soft and smooth!?" I'm really excited to check out more items from NUDE Skincare's line. This is the first time I've felt and seen a significant change in my skin's health with an all-natural regimen. Powerful and natural can co-exist! Each product feels extremely luxurious and smells amazing. My morning and evening skincare ritual feels like an indulgent spa treatment, and it's something I look forward to. As a busy mom, it's a much needed daily dose of ahhhh.

To celebrate Cuyana and NUDE Skincare's philosophy of "Fewer, Better, Beauty", they are co-hosting an Instagram contest to reward their fans:

For a chance to win, upload an original Instagram image of what "fewer, better, beauty" means to you. Follow @cuyana and @nudeskincare and use the hashtag #fewerbetterbeauty. The contest runs until October 12th, 2014. Three winners will be selected and announced on Monday October 27th, 2014. Winning entries will win a travel case set in lilac and a selection of new NUDE Skincare products.

Good luck!! Thanks for dropping by.

Barre Class with Lucy Activewear

September 11, 2014

Thanks to Lucy Activewear for these amazing new flexibility leggings! They are a modern take on the traditional dance pant. These along with their perfect core style are my new must-haves. I'll surely be stocking up on them. They are unbelievably comfortable, not too thin or too thick and they suck you in and shape your legs like nothing else. I wore them all day running errands (styled with flat booties and an over sized jacket), and took them straight into the studio.

To celebrate Avant-Barre's new studio, we invited a  handful of SF's bloggers and editors for a fun night at the Barre with some sips and a trial class with Nini. I'm anticipating a painful start to my morning tomorrow because every muscle in my body has been thoroughly worked and stretched! Ever since I was little, exercise has been a big part of my daily routine - swimming, walking, biking, cheer leading....ballet. I've continued trying to be active and eat well throughout the years. Once I reached my late twenties however, I realized that my body was changing and what used to work for me, didn't cut it anymore. I'm now finding that I need to push extra hard and challenge my body in different ways. In an ideal week, I mix up a hilly 4-mile power walk session with barre workouts and once in a while, a trip to Bikram yoga. Again, that would be an ideal week. Life gets in the way sometimes. I constantly have to remind myself that I can say no to certain things so that I can make time for me. Nothing is more important than my family's health and happiness. By taking care of myself, I am better able to give them 100% of my time and love. So I'm going to learn how to better say no - those dirty dishes can wait until my workout is over. Thanks to Avant-Barre, I'm inspired to get back on track with my fitness goals and looking forward to making more of a conscious effort to get back into my best shape. If you're looking for an effective, modern workout that sculpts long and lean dancer bodies, this is the one for you.  Read on for a chance to try it for free!

Spaces: Avant Barre

September 10, 2014

Snapshots of one of the projects I worked on this year! My friend and founder of Avant Barre, Nini Gueco hired me to help her pull their new San Francisco studio together. I came on board to help with the finishing touches-  we nailed down paint colors, sourced some furniture, lighting and decor and pulled everything together all within 2-3 weeks. Because of the quick turnaround time, we turned to West Elm (chairs, pendants, chandelier, bench), CB2 and Ikea. They wanted their studio to reflect their brand. To effectively communicate their message and personality, I focused on subtle, practical details that can make a big impact on the over-all look. The design and construction of the West Elm chairs (repurposed, since they are actually for outdoor use) emphasize grace, strength and movement. Also, the outdoor fabric makes it ideal for high traffic areas (aka it can stand up to post-workout lounging sessions). The mobile chandelier gives off lots of energy and balance. Neutral wall colors provide a relaxing yet stimulating environment with the contrasts between light and dark. Natural accents help soften up the modern-industrial look and make the space as cozy and inviting as it is invigorating.

Now it's time to share some of this Barre love with you! If you live in the SF Bay Area and want a chance to try out this awesome workout........We are giving one lucky reader two free weeks of classes at Avant-Barre. All you need to do is:
